Olbermann: How dare you, Mr. President!

September 29th, 2006 by CD

 ko.jpg

Never have I heard of a man speak with such integrity and eloquently speak of President Bush like this. Please watch the full video right here. Excerpt from video: The polite phrase for how so many of us were duped into supporting a war, on the false premise that it had ’something to do’ with 9/11 is “lying by implication.” The impolite phrase is “impeachable offense.”

Loose Change: Government involvement in 9/11

September 28th, 2006 by CD

Hello once again to everyone! Today I will be talking about a very controversial topic. I wanted to talk about September 11th before the actual end of September. So with that said, lets begin.

September 11th was a horrible day for this country. But as Americans do we have the full facts as to what really happened that day? Have we researched extensively the events and unanswered questions that we have regarding that fateful day? The U.S. government loves it when we do not pay close attention (i.e. by not voting) to the daily events that play out. The average American has a short attention span when it comes to government issues, which leads us to be less defiant when we hear political leaders and watch the news. The Bush administration is like a deadly bacteria. We must look at events that are happening around the world and here at home to see what if any hidden agendas might be uncovered.I believe that most Americans think this government is a law-abiding government that follows international law and is the perfect representation of human rights. Well I am here to tell you everyone to wake up from that delusion. Does the U.S. government have any right to lecture China on human rights issues when our government needs a lesson or two on how to treat prisoners of war humanely? As I said earlier, if we do are research we will find atrocities that this government has committed. If we as Americans know the facts that happen in the past and that are happening right now it would certainly not be tolerated. We as Americans must not believe the propaganda that our current government is telling us regarding the ongoing war on terror. The theme of the Bush Administration using violence as a last resort and that it must be for the common good of all is a propaganda slogan that has been echoed by horrible leaders in the past. We as the citizens of our country have the duty to uncover the wrongdoings of our government and to promote and demand global peace from power hungry imperialist governments. Future blogs will be devoted to sharing some of the horrible acts that the American government has done to its citizens and the ongoing terror of war.

So we that little outburst , I am going to help my readers by encouraging you to watch Loose Change. What is Loose Change? It is a film that “shows direct connection between the attacks of September 11, 2001 and the United States government. Evidence is derived from news footage, scientific fact, and most important, Americans who suffered through that tragic day.” Yes, I will say it again, a direct connection between the the attacks of September 11, 2001 and the United States government. These are remarkable findings! I had to watch it three times to let all the information seek in. This video has been translated into many different languages, including French, Spanish and German. The video is 1h30mins approximately and can be watched online! Watch it today!

As always, these are my opinions and I encourage everyone to share their thoughts on this issue with me through the comment bottom below! You have the option of being anonymous if you choose.

Update Bill S 3930: Passed

September 28th, 2006 by CD

Bill S 3930 has passed. Democrats say this bill has given President Bush too much power. Furthermore, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid issued a statement concluding he is “convinced that future generations will view passage of this bill as a grave error.” You may wonder why the press has not been covering this important bill. Under this bill anyone could be considered an “enemy combatant.” I’m sure the media is scared to report the true facts and to criticize this bill as they could just disappear and be labeled an “enemy combatant.”

Under this bill, the Bush Administration now has the right to interpret the Geneva Convention. So what does that mean? Torture, yes torture can be used and is legal again. This is retroactive to Nov, 1997. Here is the exact language in Bill S 3930 that redefines the Geneva Conventions and its applicability:

Section 8, Implementation of Treaty Obligations
(2) RETROACTIVE APPLICABILITY- The amendments made by this subsection, except as specified in subsection (d)(2)(E) of section 2441 of title 18, United States Code, shall take effect as of November 26, 1997, as if enacted immediately after the amendments made by section 583 of Public Law 105-118 (as amended by section 4002(e)(7) of Public Law 107-273).

It was said that the big case on what one can and cannot do to detainees — Hamdan v. Rumsfeld 126 S.Ct. 2749 2006 (read this brief) decided earlier this year — rested on the fact that, basically, what the Bush Administration was doing was illegal. Now that the law has been changed, potentially every single previous abuse the Bush Administration was pursuing becomes legal again and Hamdan loses all of its effective force until the Supremes Court decides otherwise.
These are just some of the powers that were granted to President Bush.

1.) Notes the president has the authority to interpret “the meaning and application” of the Geneva Conventions. Allows hearsay evidence.

2.) Allows coerced testimony if the statement was acquired before a 2005 ban on cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment and a judge finds it to be reliable. Bans coerced statements taken after the 2005 ban went into effect if it violates constitutional definitions of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.

3.) Bars individuals from protesting violations of Geneva Conventions standards in court.

FYI: Anyone from any country could be considered an “enemy combatant.”

Breaking News Alert: Bill S 3930

September 28th, 2006 by CD

civil.jpgPeople, the Bush Administration right before our eyes is trying to take our rights away protected by The Bill of Rights! Furthermore, they are trying to protect themselves from future prosecution for the many crimes they are doing now. Please read what this bill would do:
Yesterday, the House of Representatives approved its version of this legislation, HR 6166, yesterday. The Senate is preparing to vote on the bill today without any debate.
If it becomes law, this legislation will:
- Create a secret committee appointed by Bush and Rumsfeld that has the power to declare any person, even a US citizen, to be an enemy, instantly depriving them of their legal rights

- Revoke habeas corpus.

- Allow police to search your home without a search warrant.

- Revoke protection of prisoners of war under the Geneva Conventions.

- Give prior amnesty to war criminals.

- Give George W. Bush amnesty for any war crimes he has committed.

- Allow for people to be put on trial in front of a kangaroo court military tribunal - even if they aren’t in any military, and have not engaged in military attacks against the USA.

- Allow the government to convict people of crimes on the basis of secret evidence that the accused never sees.

- Make it legal for the government to use testimony extracted through torture.

- End the legal right to be protected from forced self-incrimination.

- Allow the government to imprison people without telling them what crimes they are being charged with.

- Remove the right of the accused to cross-examine witnesses.

- Allow for the records of trials to be kept secret from the American public.

- Enable trials to begin even before a thorough investigation of the alleged crime has taken place.

- Take away the right to a speedy trial.

U.S. Crime Part 2: A Mini Historical Analysis

September 27th, 2006 by CD

handcuffs-701633.jpgWelcome back to all of those coming back for a second look and a big welcome to the newcomers. Today is part 2 of U.S. Crime: A mini historical analysis of crimes in our cities. I was deeply angered and sadden by the story in part 1, so I thought the continuation of part 2 would be interesting by viewing and giving everyone some statistics on the crimes that are particularly happening in Philadelphia, New York and L.A.

So with that, lets start off by defining some of the definitions of exactly what I will be covering:

Violent crimes: is composed of four offenses, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. According to the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program’s definition, violent crimes involve force or threat of force.

Take a look at these interesting statistics that I complied: stats3_1.jpg

Now here is a comparison for the category of murder and non-negligent manslaughter by year and city.  Sorry L.A., due to reclassification of certain characteristics prior data is no longer comparable to 2005.

The L.A. Chief of Police William Bratton had an interesting theory on why there is such a rise in crime. He stated, “Crime is coming back, and it has a new and troubling element…a youthful population that is largely disassociated from the mainstream of America.” Could this explain why Ms. Hall in her early twenties could cut someone open alive and kill 3 young children? And what exactly is the mainstream of America? Is mainstream America itself plaque with violence by the U.S. government and its fight on terror, violence on everyday mainstream television, violence played out in our schools and city streets?

I would like to hear your comments on exactly what is the culture that is represented by American youth these days? Inquiring minds want to know!

Part 3, which is going to be the last part in this series, will take a look at some proposed ways that can stop the rise in violence here in America. As always, please comment using the links below on these issues.

Tuesday’s Music: Tei

September 26th, 2006 by CD

tei-pic.jpgWelcome to Tuesday’s Music! I have decided to make every Tuesday a day that I can share with everyone international music that is hitting the charts across the globe. These singers are not only popular within their own countries but known internationally. So with that said, I bring to you a relatively new singer from South Korea, Tei! Who first stunned Korea with his first album titled “The First Journey” in 2004. Since then he has given us two more albums. His second album “UcuPraCacia” and his latest album “A Third Opinion” were both released in 2005. For the longest time I had no idea what UcuPraCacia was referring too. But, I recently found out that UcuPraCacia is an imaginary plant from a book by a Korean author in which it dies when touched but if the same person falls in love and comes back to UcuPraCacia to touch it again, the plant will come back to life. Now that sounds like it should have been in the movie ‘The Never-Ending Story!” Tei named his album UcuPraCacia so he can wish for his fans continued support and devotion.

Typical of most Korean singers are their ballads but what makes Tei a joy to listen to is his unique somewhat husky voice. Tei can be heard and seen on many of the game/variety shows in Korea that I will be discussing in future blogs along with a 1 on 1 interview with my special guest!
Request for Tei’s song can be made by adding a comment.  Thanks!

U.S. Crime Part 1: An Act of Violence

September 25th, 2006 by CD

vert_children_ap_0.jpgToday’s talk is dedicated to the Tunstall children and their mother who were brutally killed and disposed of on or around September 15th. Today, right here in America, social issues particularly the rise of crime is deepening. The Tunstall children and their mother were victims of the rise of poverty, crime and hopelessness that many African Americans feel. I am truly sadden and sicken when I turn on the television and hear day after day the violence that is a never-ending story.

So many issues arise out of this one case alone that its hard to imagine the current government not paying closer attention to the “Struggle Against Violence” and the staggering social issues we have within our boarders. Future blogs will focus on these issues as this is only Part 1. What is your opinion on this issue? Our we fighting terrorism at the expense of funding our local communities with the necessary tools to combat poverty and crime? The annual FBI report on crime indicated that “Violent crime rose 2.3 percent last year, the first increase since 2001, and there were 1.39 million violent crimes which include rape, murder, robbery and aggravated assault reported in the United States in 2005, up from 1.36 million the previous year.”

Further readings on this tragedy:

Kids of slain mom were drowned, found in appliances.
Pregnant mother’s slaying triggers sad memories.

Please post your comment on this issue. Part 2 will follow later this week.

With great sadness I wish the Tunstall family: R.I.P.
23-year-old Jimella Tunstall
7-year-old DeMond Tunstall
2-year-old Ivan Tunstall-Collins
1-year-old Jinela Tunstall

Bun Cha

September 24th, 2006 by CD

ho-tay-bun-cha-set.jpgHello everyone, this is the first food topic that I will be bringing to all of my friends and vistors to my website. It is my goal to try to do a food topic every weekend. So lets begin shall we!

Would you like to eat some bún chả? Well today, I’m going to talk about a lighter and favorite past time of mine, food! For all my friends who I usually eat out with whether it be in Chinatown, Korean BBQ or a eating at Wendy’s (god help me) one can not possibly lived until you have tried bún cha. For all of you guys who do not know what bún chả is, it is basically noodles with grilled pork served with vegetables and sauce. It is absolutely a delicious simple dish that can turn a bad day into a ray of sunshine! So for those of you near a Vietnamese restaurant, go see if they have it, if they do not you can also try bún thit nuong, which is again noodles that comes with a few choices of meat or shrimp even. So whats the difference between these two? Bún cha is heavily marinated in a bowl of nước chấm and need I say again the pork is grilled.

So with that I will sign off with a big YUM YUM to bún cha.
