Exxon: False information on global warming

Posted by CD | Posted in Social Issues | Posted on 01-03-2007 | No Comments »

apg_globe_061027_sp.jpgI have been telling people and discussing with friends that for a long time private companies along with the government have been putting out false information about the affects of global warning.  Well, I hate to say it but “I told you so.”  Plainly put, the executives at Exxon have no ethical morals.  As leaders of organizations they should be setting an example of good company practices.  But, by purposely misleading the public their image is further tainted.  They did however, get one thing right when they said  “The strategy is built on the notion, that public opinion can be easily manipulated because science is complex.…”    By at large the American public is very easily manipulated because we are a nation that does not read at large.  One only needs to read a few books to come to a conclusion that most scientists around 80% all agree that global warming is effecting our environment today.

As easily as we are manipulated in this sense, we are easily manipulated into not investing issues within our own government.  We think “well if President Bush says we do not torture than we must not…” However, if you read reports including that of the international rights organizations and the U.N. you will find accounts of torture even before Bush acknowledge overseas camps.

In any event, the issue of global warming is here to stay.  The Kyoto Treaty of 1997 is essentially a battle between big businesses who want to keep their profits versus clean air societies.  A little common sense will go a long way in tracing the connection that oil companies like Exxon have with the government.  In addition, it will also yield you to investigate for yourself why would oil companies not want to clean up their act.  Less profit plus less campaign money in the hands of government officials equals a decrease in their billion dollar tax breaks.

I am not going to include the report and false information that Exxon produced over the last ten years because it is nothing but false information.  If you would like creditable information go to the UN commission on global warming.
