More than 90,000 secret military records of the US war in Afghanistan were published online Sunday providing new evidence that Americans have been misled for years about the war in Afghanistan. The White House quickly lashed out at the release of the documents. National Security Adviser James Jones said, “The United States strongly condemns the disclosure…which could put the lives of Americans and our partners at risk and threaten our national security.” The documents were leaked by the whistleblowing website WikiLeaks and first published by the New York Times, The Guardian in London and Der Spiegel in Germany.
Is a picture worth more or less than a thousand words if it’s Photoshopped? Tis tis on BP!
John Aravosis of AMERICAblog made an interesting find Monday night: A high-resolution image on BP’s website of the troubled company’s Houston-based Deepwater Horizon response command center had been altered.
The altered image was later removed by BP and replaced with what they say is the original (the altered image is above and the original is below). You’ll notice that three underwater images were inserted onto screens to the right on a wall of video feeds in the altered image, where blank images exist on the screens in the original.
The photo flap inspired the usually staid Washington Post to quip, “Apparently BP is no more adept at doctoring photos than it is at plugging deep-sea oil leaks.”
BP spokesman Scott Dean told the Post’s Steven Mufson that there was no diabolical plot to photographically beef up the company’s command center. Rather, he said, a BP photographer with completely benign intentions just slipped the images in.
I don’t know if I shoud be really excited about The Last Airbender. I saw every episode of the original series on Nickelodeon but from what I have been hearing the movie doesn’t do the series justice. I plan on going to see it either today or tomorrow. Has anyone seen it yet? What are your thoughts?
Well isn’t this quite the story. Do you want to be rented? lol Chinese companies hire white people to portray executives or clients and are Often hired in second-tier Chinese cities to impress clients and officials.
Large Wall Street firms have scored a key victory on Capitol Hill with the removal of a major tax from the financial reform bill. On Tuesday, Democrats stripped the $17.9 billion dollar fee on large financial institutions as part of efforts to win the support Republican Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts. Democrats are scrambling to win Brown’s support following the death of Democratic Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia. Byrd’s death has left Democrats one vote short of the sixty needed to overcome a Republican filibuster.
A new comparative study on healthcare has ranked the US last behind six other industrialized countries. The Commonwealth Fund evaluated the US along with Britain, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand on “quality, access, efficiency, equity, and healthy lives.” The study says the US has the least equitable system, while ranking near the bottom in quality of services. The US system is also the most expensive, with Americans paying more than double for healthcare per capita than any other country on the list. The Netherlands ranked first overall. Noting the 15 percent of Americans who lack insurance, the study concludes, “The lower the performance score for equity, the lower the performance on other measures. This suggests that, when a country fails to meet the needs of the most vulnerable, it also fails to meet the needs of the average citizen.”

The oil spill is likely to extend thousands of miles up the Atlantic ocean as early as next summer. The National Center for Atmospheric Research issued the prediction based on a detailed computer modeling study. Researchers say the spill could move as far as Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, before hitting the open Atlantic Ocean.
